Being full to overflowing

I have been pondering a question recently that was asked at a Women's Bible Study a few years ago. "What spills out of you when you are bumped?" I remember feeling rather awkward and somewhat ashamed that I knew it wasn't always pretty when I got bumped.

Recently in my quiet time with the Lord I have been pondering the nearness of the Lord in my heart and how much space I actually give to him. I have been using an awesome devotional that really challenges me to step outside my faith and grow and believe the very promises that were given to us by His grace. 1 Kings 8:56 says " Blessed be the Lord, that has given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant." His Word confirms who He is. It reminds us that there is a foundation on which to trust and a reality that will last beyond what we see. ( 2 Cor 4:18 reminds us that the things we see are temporal but to keep our eyes on the unseen which is eternal.)

So while I meditated on what spills out of me I was reminded that we are die to ourselves that Christ may live within us. ( Romans 13:14) We are to decrease so that He may increase. If I would give of my heart, surrender at the moment those things that don't honor Him in my life, I open the door to His grace in my life. When I invite Him in, in truth and humility, He fills me. He fills in those porous spaces of my heart with the life that flows from Him. John 7:38 tells us that He who believes on Christ will have rivers of living water flowing from their bellies.

So.. if I am full of Him.. what will spill when I get bumped? Living water that is full of life.

Do we actually realize the depth of that? Romans 8:11 says, " But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you." That is astonishing to me. The same spirit that brought life back into a non-living body dwells within us and quickens us. The word quicken means to be made alive. (Ephesians 2:1 uses the same reference)

So, we are quickened, or made alive by His spirit, filled with living waters and then He allows us to be minsters of grace to those who are needing a touch from Him. What should spill out of us is all the virtues of the living God who gave up heaven to bring us to Him and fill us with His spirit. The Lord told us that greater things shall we do because He goes to the Father.(John 14:12) We are to be the hands and feet of Christ reaching out to heal a hurting world.

We become extraordinary when we allow the extraordinary God in. He changes who we are. He reroutes our path when we become His. He changes our name and we are sealed for His purpose.(Eph 1:13) We should never be satisfied with anything ordinary.

He changes the atmosphere around us to be charged full of the power and annointing that defines who He is. He is to be revered and adored for who he is, not what he has done or is yet to do. There is no limit to the fullness of God. His glory is all encompassing.

Smith Wigglesworth wrote: " What is this life spoken of in Acts 5:20 ... It is the life of many revelations and many manifestations of God's Holy Spirit, a life in which the Lord is continually seen, known, felt and heard."

As I pondered this I realized this life, like grace, is a precious gift from our Heavenly Father that in reality only needs to be received. A gift is given not because we deserve it or have earned it but because the one who is giving it wants to bless us. To own it we must accept it and receive it from the one who is giving it.

So.. what spills out when we get bumped? As a believer, I want to be so full of His life that when I am bumped I can spill out the living water that brings life. Life that brings healing, hope, joy and wholeness.

Many blessings !
