Hebrews 4:16

Let us then come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Intimacy with God

I have been pondering some thoughts lately on the intimate relationship between our Heavenly Father and those of us who have made Christ the Lord of our lives. I am in continual awe as I have been made aware of God's great Love for us.

Romans 5:8 tells us " But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.". Throughout scripture the truth of God's Word reveals that His love for us is so great.

I want to expound on the word "so". John 3:16 tells us "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." It is identfied here as an adverb meaning to such an extent or to a very high degree. It's root comes from the greek word huotos that means it refers to what it is modifying. It is modifying the verb love. He loved to a very high degree. In the adjectival sense, So means to an unspecified but limited degree. I think that in this term, however, we know that God's love is not limited to human definition of specification. That is amazing to me.

She has another article that centers on this topic that reveals fruit is the product or essential result of intimacy with God.

Ok.. so now to the intimacy.. What does that look like? How do we find it? When and where do we go to partake of it?

I love how the Bible tells us over and over of men and women broken and beaten, whose lives were a result of mistakes and bad choices but were Chosen of God. His mercy was enough, it was more than enough to bring them back from the pit. Psalm 103:1-5 says " Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. " It also says that that his favor is extended to the one who comes to him with a broken and contrite heart. ( Psalm 34:18, 51:17, Is 66:2, Luke 4:18)

Jesus said that we must come to the Father through Him in John 6:44. It tells us a few verses before in vs 37 that all those who come to Him, he will not drive away. But the stipulation is that we must come. We must come to him to be covered and adopted into sonship through Jesus. We must come to him to know him and to spend time with him.

Intimacy in the earthly word talks of a deep knowing of another person or perhaps even subject. When someone has dedicated much time and energy in a relationship or a passion or whatever it is that has taken your attention, it becomes important. You develop an intimacy.

We can have such a reward and devoted fellowship with our Heavenly Father. It astounds me that He wants to know me, to see me and enjoy my companionship.. yet that is what He made us for. To be His family. We are made in His image.(Genesis 1:27)

I love to look at those He has brought into my life and see the glimpses of the Father in them. So many facets of His beauty are revealed in every aspect of His creation. We can wonder at the beauty of a sunrise, marvel at the majesty of the mountains and the grandeur of a splendid waterfall, but he chose His crowning glory to rest upon man. Psalm 8:5 says " For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor."

Romans 8:38 says " For I am pursuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers nor things present, not things to come, nor heighth, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." This is profound. Nothing can separate us. Do you realize you are inscribed on His hand? Isaiah 49:16 says " Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me."

We are seated with Christ in heavenly places and our position is before him, we are not separated -yet.. He waits. He waits for us to come to him. He waits for us to search him out and receive his pursuit. He waits to lavish His love upon you. Not condemnation, not judgement, not harsh and critical words, but love. Song of Solomon 2:4 tells us that His banner over us is love. A banner is a proclamation.. He is proclaiming LOVE over us, the children of His mercy.

I am thinking of a praise song we sing in church called Open up the Sky. There is a verse that says " Here we go, let's go to the throne, the place that we belong... right into Your arms". I love that picture. We belong right at the throne and nowhere else.

Go to the throne today and work on that intimacy with God. Your life will be a visable drawing of His grace and the fruit of time alone with Him will be abundant in your life!

Many Blessings In Christ!

Here are the lyrics to the song by Deluge called Open up the Sky.

Our beloved Father,
please come down and meet us
We are waiting for Your touch

Open up the heavens,
shower down your presence
We respond to Your great love

We won’t be satisfied with anything ordinary,
We won’t be satisfied at all

Open up the sky,
fall down like rain
We don’t want blessings,
We want You

Open up the sky,
fall down like fire
We don’t want anything but You

Our beloved Jesus,
we just wanna see You
In the glory of Your light.

Earthly things don’t matter,
They just fade and shatter
When we’re touched by love divine.

We won’t be satisfied with anything ordinary
We won’t be satisfied at all

Open up the sky,
fall down like rain
We don’t want blessings,
we want You

Open up the sky, fall down like fire
We don’t want anything but You

Here we go, let’s go to the throne
The place that we belong,
right into His arms

We won’t be satisfied with anything ordinary,
We won’t be satisfied at all.
